Summer “Hub Friends”
Been going to diff cities each summer for years. Major thing learned when choosing where to stay: Be close as possible to a “Hub Friend” (a friend who knows the ppl and city well). Makes trip better! For me it’s:
SF: @theSamParr (+Sid da dog)
Austin: @noahkagan
NYC: Kunal Das
Plain English Ad from The Art of Shaving
Love this image from @TheArtofShaving It lists/shows the ingredients, then translates what they do into plain English.
I made beef ramen from scratch 😏
While cooking some steaks I had a buncha extra beef day I cut off, so decided to see if could make ramen stock out of it.
Turned out great!!
We always come “back to the basics”
Love this set of Jim Bean “back to the basics” ads from 1990! Simple layouts that deliver a message:
Are you a lurker, participant or a creator?
The 90-9-1 Rule is a rule about most public online groups that states:
- Black circle 90% of people just lurk.
- Black circle 9% of people casually participate.
- Black circle 1% of people create most content.

Listerine’s honest copywriting
“I hate it, but I love it.” This is a great example of “Copy Judo” where you take a negative aspect of a product (in this case bad taste) and turn it into a positive (the harsh taste shows the product really works).
A different use for Campbell’s Soup
Sometimes you can take an existing product and “repurpose it” for other uses. Kind of like alcohol companies making hand sanitizer. My favorite example of repurposing is this Campbells’ Beef Broth ad showing that you can just drink it directly!
Walt Disney’s winning strategy
This is the Walt Disney Company strategy chart from 1957. I’m not a huge fan of charts like this (they are kinda confusing in my opinion), but it shows how all their divisions weren’t separate projects, but rather fed into one another.
